Kitchens
Moisture and grease mean easy-clean matters more than fabric here. Roller blinds or aluminium Venetians are the practical default, both wipe clean and handle steam and splashes far better than fabric curtains.
Bathrooms and laundries
Similar logic to kitchens, but with added humidity to account for. PVC plantation shutters or aluminium Venetians handle moisture without warping or growing mould the way some fabrics and timbers can in a poorly ventilated bathroom.
Bedrooms
Darkness and privacy usually top the list. Blockout blinds, blockout curtains, or a combination of both, work best. If the room faces a street or a neighbouring property, pair with sheers or a Venetian for daytime privacy without full blackout.
Living areas
This is where most homes want the “finished” look, curtains, or a layered blind-and-curtain combination, generally suit best. See our guide to layering curtains and blinds for how to combine them properly.
Home offices
Glare control on a screen matters more here than in almost any other room. Sunscreen roller blinds or Venetians, which let you fine-tune the angle, work better than a curtain, which tends to be all-or-nothing.
Still not sure? That’s what a measure and quote is for
Most homes end up with two or three different types of window furnishings across different rooms, and that’s completely normal, it’s not an upsell, it’s just what actually suits each room’s job. Book a free in-home measure and quote and we’ll go room by room with you.
